Sacramento is proving that the scale of water infrastructure must match the scale of climate challenges by operating a resource recovery complex that spans the size of 18 football fields.

This massive facility represents a leap into advanced water management, utilizing a biological nutrient removal process to strip away 99% of ammonia and nearly 90% of total nitrogen.

"It creates that very high quality water that we can now recycle and for uses like irrigation for food crops," says Christoph Dobson, General Manager of Sacramento Area Sewer District.

This transition from simple disposal to advanced recovery is a critical step in drought-proofing California’s food supply and protecting the health of the Delta.
