There are so many ways to manage water…
I recently stayed on a farm in my hometown in Maryland, where at first I marveled at the beauty of the serene, picturesque rural landscape complete with a pond.
Then the water geek in me took a closer look. The pond wasn’t built for aesthetics - although that was a side benefit.
It was located higher on the hill so that gravity could go to work.
A small underground outlet allowed a little water to enter a wetland area, filtering through plants and trickling down the slope. That water eventually turned into a tiny stream that flowed into a pasture for cows.
They must have known I was filming because they walked over to take a drink on cue.
A simple design I suppose. But so elegant, efficient, and effective. Farmers know water.
