AI adoption in water may be accelerating first at the kitchen table—not inside the treatment plant.
Joshua Cantone of SUEZ says everyday use of tools such as ChatGPT or Claude is changing how utility workers view digital technology. Familiarity outside the workplace can make operators more willing to consider data-driven guidance on pumps, treatment, and system operations.
But acceptance is not automatic. Utilities still have to resolve questions about cybersecurity, data protection, and whether experienced operators can trust recommendations from digital tools.
The shift is as much cultural as technical: greater comfort with AI could help water utilities move from skepticism toward careful, practical adoption.
