How Much of Your Body Is Actually Water?

How much of YOU is actually water?

We hit Water Street outside the Reservoir Center for Water Solutions in Washington, D.C., to find out how well people know their own H2O.

The guesses were generous: 70%, 80%, 90% — even 98%. The actual answer for an average adult? About 60%.

And that number changes as we age. By the time we’re elderly, water makes up closer to 50% of the body — one reason staying hydrated becomes increasingly important.

So no, we’re not quite walking water balloons. But considering more than half of the human body is water, it’s another reminder of just how fundamental H2O is to our health.

Got a water question you want us to take to the street next? Drop it in the comments.
