A ball rolling through a sewer can tell utilities a lot about what’s happening underground.
At WEFTEC, I got a look at SUEZ SewerBall, a free-floating device that travels through sewer pipes using the flow of wastewater. Equipped with sensors and cameras, it collects condition data as it moves through the system.
The idea is to help utilities screen more of their sewer networks, identify areas that may need closer attention, and better target traditional inspections, maintenance, and rehabilitation.
A pretty simple-looking device carrying out a sophisticated job below the street.
