Meet Joshua Perkins: Tackling Lead Exposure Door to Door

πŸ’§ H2O INTRO πŸ‘€ Meet Joshua Perkins, Chief of Staff of Young, Gifted & Green.

A knock at the door can alert a family to lead risks in their drinking water.

Perkins explains how community canvassing helps residents learn that their homes may be connected to lead service lines, understand steps to reduce exposure, and get their children tested. Young, Gifted & Green’s Lead Free Community Canvassing initiative reaches neighborhoods in Baltimore, Memphis, and Washington, D.C., connecting families with resources to address hazards from both water pipes and lead paint.

Children under six are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning, and exposure can occur without obvious symptoms. That makes early blood testing and direct conversations with families essential parts of this work.

The goal is to turn a warning about lead into a connection to testing, assistance, and a safer home.
