Water risk can build miles upstream before it reaches an intake.

A plant may depend on canals, rivers or reservoirs that pass through agricultural, industrial and urban areas. When conditions change across that watershed, the effects can cascade into treatment operations—driving up costs and creating new reliability and compliance risks.

Asim Bhalerao, CEO of Fluid Analytics, says the challenge is no longer simply identifying water risk. It is giving operators enough intelligence to act before changing source-water conditions disrupt operations.

The company’s AquaGrid platform combines watershed data, real-time monitoring and predictive analytics to identify emerging threats, forecast what may happen next and help organizations evaluate whether their interventions are working.

In one deployment described by Bhalerao, the technology is being used by a multinational beverage producer whose water travels through a network of canals exposed to multiple potential sources of pollution before reaching the plant.

The goal is to connect what is happening in the watershed with the operational risks and costs that can be avoided through earlier action.
