The climate sector has spent decades building a common language around carbon. Water is still speaking in different dialects.
One company reports gallons. Another reports cubic meters. Some track withdrawals. Others focus on consumption. The result is a fragmented picture that makes it difficult to compare performance, assess risk, or understand true water impacts across industries.
Lauren Enright of SCS Global Services explains how a coalition that includes WWF, the World Resources Institute, and the CEO Water Mandate is working to change that through the Water Scopes 1, 2, and 3 initiative.
The effort aims to create a common framework for measuring and reporting water dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities—bringing greater consistency and accountability to corporate water stewardship.
