U.S. and Mexico Are This Close Over Rio Grande River

This is the Rio Grande at Anzalduas Park in Texas.

I’m standing in the United States, and across the water is Mexico. It’s striking how this narrow stretch of river forms the border between two countries.

It’s a beautiful and peaceful spot, with people fishing along the U.S. shore and families swimming in the river in Mexico.

But the signs of an international boundary were all around: Border Patrol trucks, the border wall with cameras and lights, buoys marking the invisible line in the river, and speakers broadcasting messages about the border.
