We often only hear the bad news about water—contamination, main breaks, toxic tides—but there’s an entire workforce solving these challenges every single day.

Meet Antoinette Barber, Director of Communications and Utility Management Programs at the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA). Representing the nation’s largest publicly owned drinking water utilities—serving over 160 million people—AMWA works to keep water safe, reliable, and resilient.

Barber’s mission? Elevate success stories. From negotiations on the Colorado River to cybersecurity protections and storm preparedness, AMWA’s members aren’t chasing headlines—they’re chasing solutions that keep communities healthy. Through conferences, webinars, newsletters, and social media, Barber is putting water in a positive light and giving the public a reason to trust the system behind their faucets.

“My job is to elevate those stories… from Honolulu and the great work they're doing there, to the heartland, to the South… all across the country.”
