The energy for water innovation has never been stronger. ⚡

At WEFTEC 2025, Sivan Zamir of Xylem says the industry is buzzing with ideas — and ready to tackle challenges across every corner of the water cycle. From floods to droughts, and from AI to alternative sources, the next generation of water solutions is already taking shape.

Here are the four frontiers she sees defining the future of water:
• Too much water – Managing flooding and extreme weather through smarter infrastructure and predictive systems.
• Too little water – Expanding water reuse and resilience in places where scarcity threatens communities and business.
• Water quality – Advancing monitoring and treatment to ensure every drop meets the highest standards.
• Alternative sources – Exploring unconventional supplies like atmospheric water and offshore desalination.

And across it all, artificial intelligence is accelerating progress — helping innovators shorten development cycles from years to months and transforming how we understand, plan, and manage water.

💡 “You cannot talk about technology or innovation without talking about artificial intelligence,” says Zamir. “We’re seeing AI in every facet of the water cycle.”
