America's water treatment plants are entering a new era.

For decades, utilities relied on the familiar sequence of coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation to produce safe drinking water. Those processes remain essential—but today's challenges are demanding much more.

Jaime Safulko of PCL Construction says utilities are rapidly investing in advanced treatment technologies like membranes and ozone as they respond to PFAS, stricter regulations, water scarcity, and the need to develop new water supplies through reuse. It's one reason advanced water treatment projects are accelerating across the country.

The future of water isn't replacing conventional treatment. It's building on it with the next generation of technologies.
